Stress Busters

Hobbies are a great way to relax and unwind. I like the challenge of jigsaw and crossword puzzles . They keep my brain active, just like physical exercise keeps my body fit. Planning and taking care of a garden is relaxing for me! It combines both mind and body fitness.

A journal is the best way for me to keep track of the growing season’s ups and downs!

Jan 11, 2005-Plans for this year's garden are already on my mind. I just thawed some summer squash from last year's harvest, plus the new seed catalogs have started coming in the mail. I know it's a combination of both.

All the great looking pictures of fruits and vegetables, plus flowers - all those beautiful creations God has given us to enjoy. They start with violas popping up above the snow to delight our eyes along with crocuses of many different colors..and hyacinths....early tulips and then the march of all the daffodills down the hillside border between houses. A wonderland of colors to rest our eyes on!

Jan 17, 2005-I've lived in town for a year now, however I still see deer and rabbits sometime.. The following is from my journal when we lived in the country:

The year is 1999-The white-tails are contentedly grazing in the side yard! A lovely site to see so early in the morning! I enjoy watching the wildlife and that is one more way for me to relax after a long day's work!

Yes, deer, turkeys, ruffed grouse and sometimes even bear hang out around here at various times of the day and evening!

Anemones, daffodils and crocuses are popping their heads up, now that winter is almost gone! Later this summer, I know I'll be seeing a yardful of blooms of all kinds!

Moss Roses, impatiens, marigolds, Indian Paintbrush, brown-eyed susans, wild strawberries, grass flowers, gladiolas, daisies, and a lot of varieties I don't know the names for!

Both sides of the driveway are always lined with Queen Anne's Lace, crown vetch, blue cornflowers, yellow snapdragons, and a few others. It's about a 1/4 mile up hill to our house and always a pretty drive!

Taking a walk down the drive and hiking back through the woods is a great stressbuster! Most of the time I am gone at least 1 1/2 hours!

Even a 10 min. walk calms me down-enjoying the fresh air and wildlife!

Jan 20, 2005-Just received a Fruit catalog in the mail...I've been wanting to get some Blueberries for years, maybe this year? It says that blueberries are resistant to a majority of insects, plus they have a lot of antioxidants for health...that is definitely a plus and the best one is that I get to pick them all summer if I buy several varieties. They can be harvested at different times! They taste great fresh, or in pancakes, jam and a lot of other dishes. The catalog says they are about foolproof to grow too. Now, that is definitely my kind of plant.

Take pictures of your own garden:

Jan-21-2005-I like fresh produce all year long-sure the grocery store has it, however-'the fresher the better' and if I can grow edibles-great.

The following book is for everyone who feels the same way. If you like to garden all year long or have been thinking about trying it-check this book out. I bought it years ago and find it to be a wonderful reference!

Jan 30, 2005-I'll want to start the bedding plants sometime in late Feb-mid March. Lots of flowers... onions for sets ...garlic...lettuce, cabbage, brocolli, brussel sprouts......that will keep me busy for a few weeks until the weather warms up and I can actually turn some soil to plant peas and beets!

Jan 31, 2005- Need to take two cats to the Vet today-one is still limping- even after all the medicine she had to take...the other is a stray that's been hanging around here for 5 months. No one has claimed him yet!

Feb. 1, 2005- Tried to make updates yesterday-went to save and found out the host was doing maintenance work...should have read site announcements 1st. Sun is shining today and it smells like Spring!

Feb. 4, 2005 wandering thoughts....one small decision added to another small decision added to many small decisions always determines a part of our future for us!!!!! We shouldn't wait until a crisis and then use hindsite to wish we had taken care of the small problems as they happened.

Perhaps the major crisis that we just experienced wouldn't have occurred if a solution had been found for the small ones right away! Ignoring things do not make them go away!

I need to finish updating this website soon...............

Feb. 6, 2005-it's warmer now and the sun's been out all day. Reading the Bible in the morning helps me stay on track during the day too!

Browse through these journals to find just the right one for you. They have a very nice selection to choose from.
